A short while ago, I documented my intial attempts to make my Youtube videos go viral. While things still haven't quite taken off as I had hoped, my newly learned promotional techniques have helped my latest video, "Batman vs. Darth Vader!" (seen below), generate over 700 views in six days. And those views weren't just a result of me posting juicy headlines on reddit, digg or delicious (well, a lot of them were). The stats reveal that people are actually linking to, posting and passing around the video on their own. So it definitely qualifies as my most contagious video yet.
I realize that the "true" viral video is somewhat of a dying breed. (Most so-called viral videos today are the product of well funded, covert advertising campaigns). But if the guy who did the Christian Bale remix can generate over 1.7 million views in four days, there's certainly hope for the rest of us.
Then again, casting is everything...
Kudos to that observation! Search phrases for "Darth Vader" plus "Batman" certainly led to those 700 views. And yes, gone are the times of true viral videos, wherein an accidental (and oftentimes unintended) video gets to be viewed by around a million people.
