I don't know if it's curiosity, the tough economic times we're facing or simple greed and narcissism speaking. But recently I had the thought that perhaps my blog is getting enough traffic these days to warrant some sort of revenue-generating scheme.
I took a look around and noticed that my hosting company, Six Apart Media, provides a fairly simple program that allows me to place ads on my blog in exchange for a few pennies per click. I wasn't too sure what I thought about that, especially seeing as the ads are rather unsightly. Besides, who actually clicks on these things anyway? Then again, somebody must. Otherwise we wouldn't have Google, which invented the pay-per-click business model.
Speaking of Google, I checked into their Adsense program as well. It looked pretty similar to Six Apart's, but the ads weren't any more attractive. So I decided to stick close to home and use Six Apart's program to sprinkle a few ads among my more populare posts.
I'm still not sure what I think of the idea yet, but I'm sure the amount of bling I generate--or don't generate--will help me decide. Feel free to offer your own input, whoever you are...
