Sometimes I can't help myself...

I know it's pathetic that my last post was sometime in June, but I've been on the road pretty much ever since then doing the final round of shooting for the documentary I've been working on for the last year and a half. (Our web site will go public around mid-August.) I realize that's no excuse, seeing as all hotels have Internet access, but sometimes I just don't have the energy.

Nevertheless, I couldn't help but post a link to this site. It calls for Christians to pray for people who are almost certainly going to hell. At first glance I thought it was real. Thankfully, a second glance revealed it to be a hoax. Even so, it sure is a lot of fun.

Note: I'm not mocking the idea of Christians praying for people. I'm merely saying the idea that we could know who is almost certainly in danger of hell is laughable. Such judgment calls are also unbiblical, seeing as Jesus constantly emphasized how surprised we will all be on Judgment Day.

Ten Feet from the Pope!

That's where I was on September 27. Don't ask me how, but I managed to get a press pass into the Vatican while on a documentary shoot over in Italy. And it just happened to be the day that the Pope was giving an address, so our crew was right up front with the rest of the reporters.

The cool thing is, as the "Popemobile" drove past on the way to the front, Pope Benedict looked right at me, smiled, and waved. I'm not a Catholic, but I can't deny the emotional impact of that moment. Approximately 70,000 people were crammed into St. Peter's square, and the Pope had noticed me!

Afterwards, it made me think that perhaps that's what we're all looking for when it comes to God, to be noticed, to know that amongst the billions of lives seething across the planet, he sees ours, and approves. Then again, maybe that's just what I was looking for on that day, even though I wasn't aware of it. Either way, it was an experience I won't soon forget.
